About the Howard University School of Business Library

The Library

The Business Library was started on September 16, 1964 by a librarian named Thelma Halliday under the Small Business Guidance and Development Administration. In September of 1970, the library was moved to the School of Business. To this day, Howard University Business School has the only library that is within their building in the District of Columbia.

The mission of the School of Business Library is to provide its respective patron base with authoritative business information in multiple formats, support the integration of information and technology into the School’s curriculum, and serve as a center for research and development for state-of-the-art information technology applications in the business education field. Its collections, both physical and digital, cover most aspects of business study, including such specialties as accounting, finance, international business, information systems and decision sciences, marketing, management, and supply-chain management.

Special strengths of the Business Library’s collection include its focus on materials relating to business ethics, company and business history, corporate finance, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, small business, high technology industries, innovation and technological change, and nonprofit management.

The library offers community study research areas, computer workstations, group presentation practice rooms, a periodicals area, wireless access; and electronic databases. Its librarians provide School of Business students, faculty members, and staff with formal and informal library instruction, research workshops, and reference assistance.
